Identity Verification

During activation, Capital One will ask a few questions to confirm your identity. This step protects your account from fraud.
Verification usually adds only 30–60 seconds to the activation process.

Steps

  1. Enter the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number when prompted.
  2. Confirm your date of birth in MM/DD/YYYY format.
  3. Enter your ZIP code from your Capital One application.
  4. If asked, answer the security questions you set up previously.
  5. If a one-time code is sent to your phone or email, enter it in the field.
  6. Continue with the activation once verification is complete.
If all details match your account records, you’ll move straight to the confirmation screen.

Helpful Tips

  • Use the exact ZIP code from your card application.
  • Keep your phone within reach for one-time codes.
  • If you moved recently, use the address on file, not your current address.
Never share verification codes with anyone claiming to be from Capital One. Real employees will never ask for your codes.
